Description A 7-piece set for bassoon called "Confessions" was written in Santiago de Chile in August 2019.

Everything started with a friendly request from Dr. Cody Hunter - bassoonist from North Dakota who asked if I could write a new piece for solo bassoon. Being a bassoonist myself, I was always fascinated by the agility of this instrument and how easily one can express a huge variety of emotions via bassoon. This instrument is perfect just for everything from extasy to despair, sweetness to brutality, lightness and humor to most profound depression. Bassoon is much more than just a orchestra clown, grumpy grandfather, nutty-sounding sorcerer's broom or sentimental Tchaikovsky-style gentleman.

So I accepted the challenge and decided to start with the idea to project human emotions through a set of short but intense solo pieces for bassoon. As the work progressed, I became aware that I shouldn't stop after finishing just two or three pieces. The ideas and inspirations kept coming and finally, the whole set grew up to 7 pieces of different character. First, I wanted to name it "Affects" but it also contained more lyrical material so I thought that in this case, "Confessions" would be the most appropriate title.

Albeit the title might suggest this, there are no program notes neither a story behind the music. Each piece is meant to represent a certain mental state and is not necessarily connected to another piece. Therefore it's possible to perform them in any combination, or separately. I am leaving this to the player.

I'd like to express my gratitude and send my warmest regards to the following people who always supported my creative output:

Dr. Cody Hunter, Kevin Fuller, Trent Jacobs, Monzerrat Miranda and Efrain Vidal
